Podcast: John Olerud

John Olerud is our latest guest on the @MetsRewind Podcast. The former Mets first baseman played 17 MLB seasons including three in Flushing (1997-1999) where he compiled a .315 batting average, a franchise best.

But Olerud is not defined by World Series rings, and Gold Gloves, and All-Star appearances. Over a cup of coffee we talked about his playing days, but more importantly, the events that shaped his life.

“[Baseball is] hardly a life-and-death situation for me. I’ve had the chance to think about dying. I know what’s important. [That’s to] live life to its fullest. Don’t waste a moment. I plan to enjoy whatever life brings my way and be thankful I have a life to enjoy.”
