The New York Mets announced that they will wear a No. 41 patch on their sleeve in honor of the late Tom Seaver.
Seaver, who passed away on August 31, 2020 at age 75, won 311 games, a career 2.86 ERA and 3,640 strikeouts over his 20-year career (1967-1986). Seaver appeared in All-Star games and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992. He won three Cy Young Awards with the team in 1969, 1973 and 1975 as well as the NL Rookie of the Year Award in 1967. He played 12 years in New York and recorded a 198-124 win-loss record, a 2.57 ERA and 2,541 strikeouts. He is the Mets all-time leader in wins, strikeouts, shutouts (44), ERA, complete games (171) and starts (395).
In 2019, Seaver was the first player inducted into the MetsRewind Hall of Fame.
