Lindsay Berra can’t remember a time in her life when sports, especially baseball, wasn’t a topic of conversation. Then again, she didn’t have much of a choice; the game was in the Berra DNA. Her dad (Larry) played for the New York Mets organization, one uncle (Dale) played 14 major league seasons, her other uncle (Tim) played one season in the NFL and her grandfather — Lawrence Peter “Yogi” Berra — all he did was play 19 seasons, including 15 All-Star Game appearances, three Most Valuable Player awards, 10 World Series championships and in 1972 he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Berra also managed the New York Yankees (1964, 1984-1985) and crosstown rival Mets (1972-1975) and won a pennant for each team.
Yogi Berra is ranked among the greatest catchers of all-time, and more importantly, he was an exceptional man of character. On this episode of the podcast, Lindsay Berra talks with me about her relationship with her grandfather, his enduring legacy and his legendary “Yogi-isms.” You can learn more about Berra at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center, located on the campus of Montclair State University.
