April 11, 1962: Cardinals 11, Mets 4

The New York Mets first game in franchise history was played on April 11th, 1962 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Listen to the entire game broadcast  by Bob Murphy, Ralph Kiner, and Lindsey Nelson.

The Cardinals defeated the Mets, 11-4. Cardinals starter Larry Jackson pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits including a pair of home runs. Gil Hodges solo shot in the fourth was the first regular season HR by a Mets player in team history and, one inning later, Mets second baseman Charlie Neal hit another.
